It was celebrations all round at the Wella Professionals TrendVision 2017 Awards, where global stylists competed in a color and creative vision show-down. But it wasn’t just competitors who received recognition at our annual hairdressing event; we were delighted to award the inimitable Annie Humphreys with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Known as ‘The Mother of Color’ and a formidable force in the hair industry, Annie is nothing short of an icon and a true visionary. After meeting Vidal Sassoon in 1958 – when he took over the salon she worked in at the time – Annie accepted an offer to stay on as his color assistant. And hair history was made…

A brilliant partnership ensued between the two. Annie was inspired by Vidal’s signature geometric cuts, and matched them with unique color designs that turned into trends.     She pioneered the use of foils in hair colour, as well as free-hand techniques, creating bespoke, statement-making color tailored to each individual.

With an incredible career spanning 50 years, Annie has shared her talent and knowledge with the next generation of hair colorists, teaching others her signature techniques, formulas and methods.

Sylvie Moreau, President of Wella and Coty Professionals Beauty, said of the award: “I am thrilled that the Lifetime Achievement Award has been awarded to Annie Humphreys, a legendary colorist who is both an inspiration to every colorist in the room today, and also an inspiration for me personally.”
