And, we’re off. It’s been a celebratory start to New York Fashion Week spring/summer ’18, with Jeremy Scott’s 20th anniversary show kicking off our calendar. Cue party vibes all round, as Wella Professionals Global Creative Director and ghd Ambassador, Eugene Souleiman, teamed embellished gowns with sassy hairstyles unique to every model.

“I wanted to create something wearable that is unique to each model’s individual character,” Eugene explained. “In the past we have created strong, conceptual looks that embrace the mood of the clothes and the statement Jeremy is making.

“This season the statement is, there is no statement. The hair is relaxed and beautiful. I want every girl to look in the mirror and like the way they look, then leave the show wearing the look.”

Mission, accomplished. Between Jasmine Tookes’ taut topknot and Stella Maxwell’s gorgeous, beachy locks, Eugene coiffed the kind of party hair that was made for all-night raving. His favourite look? The Techno Tail; a “twist on the classic ponytail [that] sees the hair shaped and pulled back to elevate the tail above the neck line”. Think fresh, fun and cool.

To prep for this pony, mid-lengths were treated to a shine-boosting dose of EIMI Perfect Me Smoothing Lotion, before the hair was blow-dried using the ghd Air Dryer.

EIMI Extra Volume Mousse was then pressed into strands - rather than brushed from root to tip - in order to create a raw, sharp canvas for the ponytail.

“Pulling the hair back into a pony creates a tight texture that looks chic,” says Eugene. “I crafted the look using ghd Platinum Styler starting at the roots and working downwards, adding more tension as I pulled down on the hair creating a sleek, straight look. A key tip is to always let the hair cool down after straightening, before brushing it out.”

“We wanted the hair to not touch the clothes so the ponytail really swings, adding toughness to the look to make it feel cooler and more instant.”

Never mind SS18; we’re ready to start wearing this look right now.
