3 Ultra-Inspiring Hair Trends from Fashion Week SS19

Styling Trends

Fashion Month SS19 is officially over – and what a month it was for Wella. Led by our Creative Director of Care & Styling and ghd Fashion Week Ambassador, Eugene Souleiman, we created new trends, trialled fresh techniques, and gave a raft of just-launched products their catwalk debut. Everything from undone waves to texture-building baby braids made this a Fashion Week season we won’t forget. Want a sneak peek at the hottest trends? Here are three your clients will be craving come spring/summer…

Effortless Aesthetic

Seen At: Jeremy Scott and Jil Sander

It’ll take a little more than a dip in the ocean to perfect SS19’s beachy wave. While the look is still undeniably undone, Eugene introduced an element of polish to summer’s go-to style.

At Jeremy Scott, this meant maintaining each models’ individual texture, but adding gloss into the mix with a blend of our two new stylers: EIMI Cocktail Me and EIMI Oil Spritz. Together they created a satin shine finish, while the ghd Platinum+ tool added ‘hidden volume’ in the lower layers. The result? Glamour with a dose of 90s cool.

Meanwhile, in Milan, the Jil Sander show saw models embrace soft minimalism, “as if the hair is being tamed and nature is trying to fight it,” said Eugene. He started with a blunt cut, then created kinks and bends through short hair with the ghd Platinum+. Longer locks were simply twisted and sealed in place using the ghd Air hairdryer. And, hello waves.

Tousled ‘Tails

Seen At: Preen, Thom Browne and Olivier Theyskens

Foamy, frothy, felt-like ponytails felt anything but passé at Thom Browne. In fact, the innovative style proved as statement-making as the designer’s colourful, ocean-inspired collection. But that wasn’t the only up-do proving next season’s ponytails are shirking their prim reputation; Olivier Theyskens and Preen also debuted delightfully dishevelled ‘dos.

On the dramatic end of the spectrum Preen’s low, windswept, side ponies; an aesthetic inspired by a travelling gypsy whose hair has been squashed by the scarf she wears. Eugene prepped the pony with EIMI Dry Me for texture, criss-crossed elastic around a single microbraid, then misted EIMI Mistify Me Strong to softly sculpt tendrils around the face.

Meanwhile, Olivier Theyskens’ pony reflects natural, wistful chaos. Think, loose, wispy tendrils, a hefty dose of EIMI Sugar Lift and a woodland twig tucked in the back for effect.

Microbraid Magic

Seen At: Dion Lee

Microbraids don’t merely add a hot, hippie vibe to a look; Eugene used them to bump up volume and texture in Dion Lee’s chic chignons by hiding them in the lower layers of hair. Then, EIMI Cocktail, EIMI Oil Spritz and EIMI Ocean Spritz were blended for a veil of almost-matte shine, while the ghd Curve Creative Wand helped to enhance body further. Et, voila – the up-do of dreams.
