8 Hairstyles & Haircuts Guaranteed to Make You Look Younger
We’ve talked about youth-boosting hair colors, but what about haircuts and hairstyles that make you look younger? Like a glow-enhancing shade of blonde or a rich, glossy brunette hue, certain younger haircuts and coiffing techniques can turn back the years. Here, we reveal eight hairstyles for clients who want to appear more youthful, from a piecey pixie crop to grown-out bangs that frame the face flawlessly…
1. Wavy Bob
While adding too many choppy layers can run the risk of looking dated, snipping a long layer into a short blonde hairstyle helps to boost body instantly. Here, global influencer Renya Xydis amps up a honey blonde, chin-skimming cut with tousled, wavy layers that verge on beachy, but work year-round. To create the look, she started by spraying EIMI Root Shoot into locks, then dried in the opposite direction to where the hair would naturally fall. Once dry, she wrapped hair around a curling iron, alternating the direction for each section to create a less-polished, more-undone wave. EIMI Mistify Me Light was used to set the look in place.
2. Perfect Pixie

For clients tired of blowdrying and styling longer locks, a pixie cut is perfect, with minimal maintenance and coiffing required. Opt for layered crops that lend some lift. Once you’ve reached the right length, you can do this by point cutting up into the pixie to feather the ends. Then, recommend clients add a matte wax or clay to their styling routine to tame the ends. Some of our favorites include EIMI Texture Touch clay to tease tapered tips or EIMI Pearl Styler for a flexible gel with added shine.
3. Grown-Out Bangs

Hairstyles that frame the face can have a ‘sculpting’ effect on features – which is why grown-out bangs and grown-out fringes (aka ‘gringes’) are some of the most youth-boosting styles we know. Gently grazing the cheekbones, they add instant lift and definition that’s universally youth-enhancing. Plus, they’re relatively easy to achieve. If your client already has bangs they want to grow out, suggest they start parting them as they get longer. Once they reach bottom lashes, you’ll find you can begin to taper the edges. On clients who don’t yet have bangs, this look becomes easier still, as you can snip and style from scratch. Then, blowdry with a smoothing cream to create some Farrah Fawcett-esque movement through the front.
4. Mid-Length Chop

Sometimes, if hair becomes too long, it can start to look wispy and thin. And, over time, those ends become more prone to breakage, as sebum production from the scalp slows down. That’s why one of the most youth-boosting things you can do is cut long locks to shoulder height, giving clients a swishy lob or fresh mid-length chop. The effect of losing ravaged tips is dramatic, making hair look glossier and, often, adding a little extra volume with the loss of all that weight. Make sure clients trying this polished style have all they need to keep it in check: a nourishing shampoo, like INVIGO Nutri-Enrich Deep Nourishing Shampoo, a softening mask, like INVIGO Nutri-Enrich Deep Nourishing Mask, and INVIGO Frizz Control Cream to aid bouncy blowdries.
5. Glossy Curls

The decrease in sebum production can hit curly hair harder, as the coily texture makes it more difficult for natural oils to reach the tips of each strand. However, by regularly trimming the ends and adopting a nourishing hair care routine, clients can keep curls looking youthful and bouncy from one appointment to the next. Steer them in the direction of the NutriCurls collection for their pick of gentle shampoos and co-washing products, then try a dreamy combo of curl-defining stylers. We recommend scrunching EIMI Curlixir Balm from root to tip pre-blowdry, then mixing EIMI Oil Spritz and EIMI Fresh Up in the palms of hands before teasing through the hair.
6. Gently Graduated Bob

Modern without being trendy or ‘dated’, a gently graduated bob gives a little loose structure to the hair. What you want is a soft, subtle graduation over harsh, diagonal lines. When cutting in this look, always begin at the back, which will be your shortest section, and go for a deep 45 degree angle. This sharp shape acts as a guideline for the graduation. Then, point cut into the looser silhouette, taking that more angular outline away. Finish with wavy styling using the GHD tong and a misting of EIMI Dynamic Fix.
7. Elegant Updo

Elegant doesn’t have to mean sleek. Softer updos appear less severe than slicked-back ponies, so we always recommend loose chignons and wavy half-up styles for those who want to look younger. However, for events where the look needs to last, try styling a little tighter at first, then tousle and tease strands loose when you’re done. This will mean the hairdo has a sturdy structure. Also opt for a strong hold yet brushable hairspray, like EIMI Flexible Finish. It keeps updos in check without making hair rigid or crunchy. The dream for undone perfection.
8. Low Ponytail

While you, as an expert, can blowdry, tong and coif your client’s hair to perfection at record speed, they’ll rarely have the skills or time to create these salon-fresh styles at home. That’s where ponytails come in. For those wondering how to tame their locks on the double, suggest low ponytails over scraped-back ‘dos, as they tend to be less severe. To make the pony extra flattering, show them how to add volume with light backcombing through the crown. We recommend teasing each section no more than three times to minimize damage. Then, once they’ve achieved enough lift, they should mist in EIMI Mistify Me Light, and secure the hair at the nape of the neck. To dress it up, tong the lengths and pull out a few face-framing tendrils.
